What Is Block 2 School?

The purpose of The Block Gives Back, Block 2 School event is to provide the much-needed essentials school-age kids need to have a successful school year. With Philadelphia being the poorest big city in the country and over 6,500 youth experiencing homelessness during the 2016-2017 school year we found it imperative that we do what we can as an organization and community leaders to relieve some weight from our students' shoulders.

GOALS

Every year The Block Gives Back aims to partner with community leaders, local businesses, and peer organizations to create a resourceful and celebratory back-to-school event. While preparing students with at least 1,000 custom book bags filled with school supplies The Block Gives Back creates a fun-filled day of free activities, resources, and positive reinforcement.

How You Can Help

There are many ways to help make this event even better! You can sign up to volunteer with us, partner with us, visit our AmazonSmile request list for supplies needed, or help us spread the word. The main way we call on our community other than volunteers is in the form of donations and there are several ways to support The Block. If you’d like to help us help someone else, please use the link below to donate - anything & everything helps.

For our 2024 Block 2 School we’ll be accepting donations at The Block Shop at 6831 Torresdale Avenue. Specifically, we’re looking for the following items and take donations May through August:

  • School Bags (covered thanks to the Pray Family Fund!)

  • Pencils

  • Crayons & Colored Pencils

  • Notebooks

  • Rulers

  • Glue Sticks

  • Pencil Sharpeners

  • Erasers

  • Hand Sanitizer
