What Is Feed The Block?

Feed the Block is a weekly event held on Saturdays at our home-base “The Block Shop”, 6831 Torresdale Avenue, where we serve freshly prepared meals along with packaged bags of groceries.

TBGB has developed this program to unite, organize, and mobilize as many volunteers as possible to prepare and serve much needed meals and supplies to those in need. When the pandemic began The Block Gives Back recognized a need to increase serving events, and hosted Feed The Block for 52 weeks straight, a schedule we adopted permanently.

Volunteers learn valuable social skills, organization skills, culinary skills, and problem solving skills that they can translate into valuable tools within the educational and occupational side of life. In addition to the volunteers benefitting from this event/program the people we serve benefit from either a warm, freshly prepared meal in the winter or a cool, refreshing meal in the warmer month. We urge volunteers to interact with, hold conversations, and enjoy music with those being served. It allows the beneficiaries to enjoy recreational activities they may not be able to on a daily basis.
